Today marks the start of something new, derived from something old. No more numbers, just photos and words. I’m aiming to take something every day, but last year I think that diluted the overall quality. If something really sucks, it’ll just be a day for words.

Today is about free shit. I love free shit. This is an issue of The Order of Things magazine that I was given by the guy from Truth or Dare when I bought my sexy new polo shirt. It’s incredibly well put together, and I’m hoping I can get all the copies of it. It’s shiny! Whatever font they’re using has an awesome set of ligatures. Check it out if your into poseur-tastic crap or good quality print.

Living in Southampton, we’re exposed to quite a lot of “art” on stalls in the marketplace and we both have an affinity for graffiti (amongst other things). There is a great artist who sells pieces on the market, who we’ve bought from a few times before and we just got some more at the weekend. I love the texture of canvas, and I really love how the DoF here draws your eyes into the focal area.

Inside this building rocks. It’s quite difficult to take photos during the day because so much light gets through those windows. They turn on these cool lights, and it’s really peaceful after everyone’s gone so this is the perfect time to take photos – if you can dodge security. Which I can’t.

I found it really hard to decide between three I took tonight, so here are the other two. I’m still not sure which I prefer, and this might change when I look again!

Having looked, I think I made the right choice – photos with other people’s art as subject matter don’t really hold any validity in my eyes and, although it’s a cool effect, I think it’d feel wrong having this as a photo for the whole day (though there have doubtless been far worse attempts, go on as you mean to go on, I say!)!

I love graffiti. Charlotte found this place on her way to work. Apparently it was supposed to be part of an urban development in the late eighties, which seems to have really paid off. There is some absolutely amazing work down there, but this was my favourite part, purely because of the surroundings – it’s totally unlike anything else down there and it’s really subtle.

Below are two others that I liked down there. I love blue and orange together, and Charlotte’s really photogenic when she’s not running away from the camera.

This was going to be an awesome rear sync photo of James wandering down a hallway at work. It didn’t turn out that way because of my minimal flash power, but it’s still nice that this could have been an art gallery!
